As a Manulife group benefits plan member, your Health Service Navigator provides you and your eligible family members with access to a second opinion service. This service offers “world-class” medical second opinions from doctors at top American hospitals through our service provider, WorldCare. You can have confidence knowing that a team of leading physicians is available to provide you with a personalized review of your health issue and provide recommendations based on cutting-edge research. Best of all, your second opinion is typically delivered to you through WorldCare within four business days of receiving the complete medical information and reviewing pathology, if any; all without the expense and stress of travel or additional office visits.

This second opinion service through WorldCare is a unique benefit that’s useful to both you and your doctors, and includes:

Expert Consultations

The second opinion service offers an independent medical review using experts at top American hospitals. This means you’ll receive:

  • A thorough review of your medical records and supporting information by one or more specialists.
  • A Consultation Report, which reviews the diagnosis made by your doctor, and confirms or suggests a treatment plan and the diagnosis.
  • A complete Second Opinion Package, containing:
    1. Information to help you understand your condition.
    2. A list of questions for you to discuss with your doctor.
    3. Information directing you to local and online support groups, websites and resources to help you find more information on your health issue.
    4. A Consultation Report from each specialist that reviewed the records.
    5. A complete package of the paper medical records that were used for the second opinion.
    6. Information on the doctors who provided the second opinion.
    7. Information on the hospital that provided the second opinion.
  • In complex cases, advice from two separate hospitals is given at no extra cost.
  • One follow-up review related to the first request, if needed and if requested within thirty days of the initial Consultation Report.

WorldCare Care Coordination Service

If you have received a Second Opinion through WorldCare and, instead of receiving care in Canada, you decide to travel to the United States for treatment, WorldCare can provide the following assistance services:

  • Locating a hospital or specialist for care in the United States
  • Setting up appointments, including hospital admission and doctor referrals (including, but not limited to WorldCare provider hospitals)
  • Arranging any special accommodation and transportation needs from Canada.
  • Arranging interpreters or any other special needs.
  • Providing information to both you and your doctors for your return to Canada and arranging for follow up medical care.
