Provincial Guides

Find the services you need in your province.

Select your province or territory from the map or click on the list below.

As Canadians our health care system is part of our national identity, probably because we know that it is federal law. The Canada Health Act guarantees we can receive most medical services for free. However, actually delivering that care is a provincial responsibility. This means that each province has a great deal of power to determine what services will be covered by medicare and who can deliver them. As a result, there are some big differences between the various provincial health plans.

Many private and not-for-profit health organizations operate in only one province or region. Depending where you live, you may have a number of choices for services, or no access to some services at all.

The Provincial Guides are your tool to find the specific health information you need to get help in your community. Look here for:

  • an overview of your provincial health plan
  • links to not-for-profit organizations serving your area
  • sources for allied health professionals, like chiropractors and physiotherapists
  • the best centres for treatment of specific diseases, like cancer and diabetes
  • providers of home care and assisted living for the elderly and people with a disability
  • information on wait times in your province
  • and much more
