On behalf of the Municipal Health & Safety Association Board of Directors, I am pleased to welcome you to the web cast of our second annual Health & Safety Conference originally held on October 1-3 at the Toronto Congress Centre in Etobicoke.
This important event focused on the health & safety needs of all municipal employees and others, who risk their lives to protect the community. The theme, “In the Spirit of Prevention,” was chosen to reflect the purpose of the conference, and was the focus of the sessions delegates attended.
The conference topics were chosen so that all municipal employees who have a role in responding to a disaster, will find information that will be of practical value. There were also sessions of interest to Elected officials and Senior Management. These dynamic sessions were created to offer delegates in-depth safety tips and information needed to safely overcome the obstacles and specific issues facing disaster responders today. The event also allowed delegates to exchange ideas and establish relationships with their peers from various municipal disciplines. As well, it helped forge alliances that will keep them connected and mindful of each other’s safety, and the safety of the general public.
Other areas of interest were powerful daily keynote speakers, a Trade Show comprised of the products and services offered by companies within the emergency response sectors, a display of large emergency equipment, a conference banquet with entertainment and three certificate-level training programmes. Our delegates enjoyed two and a half days of sharing up-to-date safety information, meeting people and discovering ways of working more cohesively together.
